The fast of Hariyali Teej is observed by married women with the wish of their husband’s long life and happy married life. Like Karva Chauth, this fast is also very difficult and important. In this fast, the women who observe the fast give up food and water throughout the day and worship Lord Shiva and Parvati in the evening and pray for the long life of the husbandSomvar Vrat Udyapan is performed by doing Gauri, Ganesh, Kalash, Matrika Puja, Navgraha puja. Lingatobadra puja, Shiv parivar Puja, Rudrabhishek is performed on Shivling, Katha shravanam is done and Havan is performed. Later Yatha Shakti Daan and Dakshina are given to the Brahmins who are invited to perform the Udyapan Puja. Hariyali Teej fast is observed on Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Sawan month. It is called Hariyali Teej as it falls in the month of Sawan. It is considered auspicious for women to wear green clothes and apply henna on this day.The fast of Hariyali Teej is especially observed by married women. On this day, after retiring from bath etc., remembering Shiva-Parvati and taking a vow of fasting. After this, even food and water are not taken throughout the day. On the evening of Hariyali Teej, idols of Shiva-Parvati made of raw clay made with their own hands are worshipped. In worship, Lord Shiva is offered Belpatra, Bhang, Datura, Madar, Roli, Achat etc. Whereas Chunari, vermilion, bangles and bindi should be offered to Goddess Parvati.
